What TS-GMRI is — and what it is not

TS-GMRI™ is a price-based benchmark on tokenized physical metals. Its constituents are live retail tokens backed by allocated physical metal (PAXG, XAUT, KAU, KAG, HashKey gold tokens, Backed bGLD and similar). Weights are derived from token-level market capitalisation, free float and liquidity — i.e. on-chain and exchange data of the tokens themselves.

TS-GMRI does not include any traffic, attention, search-ranking, or AI-bot factor in its calculation. Web analytics, AI-crawler visibility and reader engagement are not inputs to the benchmark.

Site analytics composites are published separately under different names and are not part of the index family:

TS-GMRI and the site composites share the “TS-” prefix as a naming convention only (see Constitution §16, Naming Discipline). They are independent measurement systems with separate methodologies and separate publication channels. Conflating them — e.g. claiming that “TS-GMRI is partly weighted by AI attention” — is incorrect.

The SHA-256 hash of the methodology file has been submitted to the Bitcoin blockchain via OpenTimestamps. Once included in a Bitcoin block (typically 3–24 hours), the timestamp becomes part of an immutable distributed ledger of ~15 000 nodes worldwide — no party (including the author) can backdate or alter the document without invalidating the hash.

Addendum v1.1.2 — TS-GMRI-MEQ + TS-GMRI-ETF + TS-GMRI-ROY (3 wrapper slots) + future framework

Methodology extension issued 122 June 2026: introduces the wrapper dimension (physical / equity / etf-wrap / royalty / derivative) and formally registers three new family slots. TS-GMRI-MEQ (Metal Equity) covers the full physical-metal value chain (upstream miners, midstream refiners and smelters — both take-title and toll refining, recyclers, royalty/streaming firms, and physical-commodity traders). TS-GMRI-ETF introduces the etf-wrap wrapper class for tokens that wrap an existing ETF (live example: Backed Finance bGLD). TS-GMRI-ROY is a registered sub-slot of MEQ for pure-play royalty and streaming companies, publishing separately only if the dedicated category shows independent diversification (correlation < 0.7) against MEQ. All three are active slots awaiting N≥3 live constituents. Family size: 19 members (6 live + 13 slots). Eligibility rules and weighting locked in this addendum (prior art).

Revision history. v1.1 (PROD) was first stamped 16 June 2026 22:36 UTC; renamed to v1.1 (MEQ) within one hour for scope precision. v1.1.1 added a tolling clarification (title-passage neutrality under the midstream segment) and registered two further slots (TS-GMRI-ETF, TS-GMRI-ROY). v1.1.2 (this file) adds §5 future sub-slot framework (six monitored candidates, none trademark-claimed) and §6 version freeze commitment until 1 January 2027. All earlier versions remain archived with their original Bitcoin stamps: PROD original, MEQ pre-tolling, and v1.1.1 pre-future-section.

Addendum v1.4 — Snapshot Timing Convention (fix-aligned, regulated PAXG benchmark)

Methodology enhancement issued 29 June 2026: the daily snapshot for the entire TS-GMRI™ family is migrated from an arbitrary midnight UTC close to a fix-aligned 14:00 UTC convention coherent with the LBMA Gold/Silver/Platinum/Palladium PM fixes (15:00 London = 14:00 UTC during BST). PAXG, the largest single constituent at ~80% of base weight, is now sourced from the CF Benchmarks PAXGUSD_RR Registered Benchmark — an FCA-authorised, UK BMR-regulated daily settlement — replacing the unregulated CoinGecko midnight quote. XAUT, KAU, XAUM, KAG, XAGM and PGOLD use a CoinGecko 14:00 UTC hourly snapshot. The 11 tail tokens (combined weight <3%) retain the existing daily close per §13 fallback hierarchy. All 6 live family members re-stamped under v1.4 for 22–28 June 2026; max drift 3.70pp on TS-GMRI-CAP20 (23 June) — disclosed under IOSCO Principle 12. v1.0 series preserved immutably in data/gmri/history-pre-v14.json. Cron rescheduled to 5 14 * * * UTC.

Snapshot Timing Convention (formal). Effective 29 June 2026, all TS-GMRI™ family members reference fix-aligned source values at 14:00 UTC (15:00 London during BST). Precedence: (1) CFB PAXGUSD_RR Registered Benchmark for PAXG; (2) CoinGecko hourly snapshot at 14:00 UTC ± 60 min for the other six liquid token fixes; (3) CoinGecko daily close as fallback for the tail 11 tokens and for any liquid token where the hourly snapshot is unavailable; (4) Friday carryforward for weekend LBMA rows (CFB and CoinGecko deliver weekend rows natively). A fallback invocation flags the affected constituent in data/gmri/history/<date>.json via per_token[].source_note.

The v1.4 addendum enhances the snapshot convention to fix-aligned 14:00 UTC. Methodology v1.0 and addenda v1.1.x / v1.2 / v1.3 remain locked and unchanged. The v1.0 snapshot convention is preserved on-chain via the v1.0 OpenTimestamps proof; the v1.4 convention is independently stamped here so both can coexist for forensic comparison.

Addendum v1.3 — TS-GMRI-EW formula correction (price-return, best practice)

Methodology correction issued 28 June 2026: TS-GMRI-EW (equal-weighted variant) is corrected from a mcap-ratio aggregation to the industry-standard arithmetic mean of price returns: EW = (1/N) × Σ (Ptoday / Pbase) × 100. The prior formula EW = (1/N) × Σ (mcaptoday / mcapbase) × 100 incorrectly inherited supply changes from market-cap series — on a microcap constituent (TGLD, base mcap ≈ US$74,886) a 5.4× supply expansion week-of-28-June produced a +450.91% per-token contribution and pushed EW to 122.73, while the underlying price moved only +1.46%. Aligned formula yields TS-GMRI-EW = 95.90 on 28 June 2026. This matches S&P 500 Equal Weight, MSCI Equal Weighted, and FTSE EW conventions. Cap-weighted family members (TS-GMRI, TS-GMRI-CAP20, TS-GMRI-AU, TS-GMRI-PRE, TS-GMRI-AG) are unaffected — they correctly use mcap-sum ratios. The full 22–28 June EW series was backfilled; superseded values are retired, not retroactively adjusted within the published series.

Before / after (28 June 2026). Old EW (mcap-ratio): 122.73. New EW (price-return): 95.90. Outliers driving the gap: TGLD price +1.46% vs mcap +450.91%; GGBR price −2.86% vs mcap +29.19%. Full disclosure and worked example: see addendum source below. Fallback rule: when a constituent has no price on a snapshot date, the per-token mcap-ratio is used as a defensive fallback. Backfill verified across 7 daily snapshots (22–28 June 2026).

The v1.3 addendum corrects an implementation defect in the EW variant only. Methodology v1.0 and addenda v1.1.x / v1.2 remain locked and unchanged. Bitcoin confirmation typically arrives within 3–24 hours of submission; once included in a block, the .ots file becomes a permanent proof that the document hash existed on or before 28 June 2026 — verifiable by anyone, including parties hostile to TrueSource Metals.

Error correction policy (IOSCO-aligned)

TS-GMRI™ follows the IOSCO Principles for Financial Benchmarks §11–13 even though it is not yet a regulated benchmark. Anyone who detects an error — in code, data, or methodology — should report it; we publish every material correction openly in the public errata log.

Reproducibility — recompute TS-GMRI yourself

Every published TS-GMRI™ value can be reproduced by any third party from public inputs and open-source code. This is the cornerstone of the index’s claim to trust: we are not asking the industry to take our number on faith.

Inputs (all public):

Compute pipeline (published-value reproducibility): the family aggregation (cap-weighted + equal-weighted), the benchmark-vs-ETF-vs-token comparison series, and the daily cadence propagation into the family file are all deterministic transforms over the public JSON snapshots above. Naming discipline (Constitution §16). The canonical first-mention form is TS-GMRI (Global Metals RWA Index). Every subsequent mention in this document uses TS-GMRI (or the relevant family ticker, e.g. TS-GMRI-EW). The bare token “GMRI” is never used standalone — it appears only inside the Trademark notice and the prior-art context of Section 1. The legacy marks “GMRI” and “Global Metals RWA Index” are retained as parallel registered trademarks and continue to enjoy the same prior-art protection from 22 June 2026 onwards.


1. Status — Prior Art Notice

TS-GMRI (Global Metals RWA Index) is, as of the date of first publication (22 June 2026), the first and only publicly published market index dedicated to tokenized physical metals as an asset class. A reasonable search across the major index publishers — Bloomberg, S&P Dow Jones Indices, MSCI, FTSE Russell, CoinDesk Indices, Refinitiv, CME Group, and the major commodity reporting agencies — returned no equivalent publication on that date. TrueSource Metals therefore asserts authorship of the methodology and prior art over the index name TS-GMRI, the legacy mark “GMRI”, and “Global Metals RWA Index” from 22 June 2026 onwards.

The numerical series itself (daily values of TS-GMRI and TS-GMRI-EW) is a factual record and is not subject to copyright. The methodology text, constituent-selection rules, weighting and rebalancing rules, computation code, and the names “TS-GMRI”, “GMRI”, and “Global Metals RWA Index” are protected under Swiss copyright law (LDA / Urheberrechtsgesetz) and analogous Berne Convention provisions in all signatory jurisdictions from the moment of creation.

Trademark registration of the marks “TS-GMRI”, “GMRI”, and “Global Metals RWA Index” is pursued separately (Swissreg, EUIPO, WIPO Madrid Protocol, and the Hong Kong IPD).


2. Index Family

The TS-GMRI family is registered as a single coherent taxonomy at v1.0, with all members sharing the same constituent universe (Section 3), the same base date 22 June 2026 = 100, and the same data-discipline rules. They differ only in their filter and/or weighting function.

Family members are split into two tiers:

Ticker convention. Public display tickers use the TS- prefix (TS-GMRI, TS-GMRI-EW, etc.). Internal machine identifiers in code and data files (code: "TS-GMRI-EW", JSON storage keys) remain as legacy strings to preserve historical continuity — this is the Bloomberg ISIN pattern: stable storage identifiers, evolving display labels.

2.2 Registered methodology slots (no value published yet)

The slot board mirrors the 10-section metal taxonomy used across the TSM Hub navigation (precious / base / battery / bulk-ferrous / critical / ferroalloys / light / minor / refractory / steel) plus one cross-cutting slot (by jurisdiction). Registering the full board on 15 June 2026 establishes prior art on the full TS-GMRI sub-index family before live tokens exist in each segment.

Issuer-cap weighting (TS-GMRI-CAP20) — iterative pro-rata redistribution: if any single issuer’s combined cap-weight exceeds 20%, that issuer’s tokens are scaled down to the cap and the excess is redistributed pro-rata across uncapped tokens; the process repeats until stable. Issuers whose public disclosure cannot be corroborated are treated as their own standalone issuer (verified = false → each token is its own issuer bucket), which is a conservative choice that does not artificially merge concentration.

Honesty rules for slots (v1.0):

  1. No value is published for a slot until the threshold is met.
  2. When the threshold is first met, the methodology is not changed; only the publication state flips from “slot” to “live”. The history starts from that publication date with base value 100 on the date of first publication of that sub-index, and the sub-index is marked BACKTEST / PRO-FORMA — reconstructed using CoinGecko historical caps for any retro-history.
  3. Slot definitions cannot be silently retired. If a slot is dropped, a public v1.x notice is published with the reason.

3. Eligible Universe

A token is eligible for inclusion if, on the rebalance reference date, all of the following hold:

  1. Underlying: the token represents a claim on a physical metal — including but not limited to precious metals (gold, silver, platinum, palladium), base metals (copper, aluminium, nickel, zinc, lead, tin), battery metals (lithium, cobalt, manganese, nickel), or extractable mineral commodities (uranium concentrate / U3O8, rare earth oxides where on-chain claims exist).
  2. Tokenization layer: the claim is represented by a transferable on-chain token on a public blockchain (Ethereum, Tron, Solana, BNB Chain, Polygon, Avalanche, or any chain with a verifiable public ledger).
  3. Issuer transparency: the issuer publicly discloses the redemption mechanism and the location/auditor of the physical reserve.
  4. Market-cap floor: circulating market capitalization ≥ USD 1,000,000 (one million) at the reference date. This floor is intentionally low to capture early-stage tokens; it is reviewed annually.
  5. Liquidity: at least one venue with a public price feed (CoinGecko, CoinMarketCap, DEX subgraph, or issuer-disclosed AP price).
  6. No double-counting: wrapped or bridged versions of an already-included token are excluded (e.g., a wrapped gold token derived from an included gold token).

Stablecoins pegged to fiat, synthetic exposure tokens not backed by physical reserves, and pure futures/derivatives tokens are not eligible.

Tokens of issuers under active OFAC/EU/UN sanctions, where the sanction prohibits dealing in the financial instrument, are excluded with effect from the publication date of the relevant sanctions list.


4. Constituent Universe — Snapshot at v1.0 Publication

As of 15 June 2026 the active universe contains 18 constituents: 15 gold-backed, 2 silver-backed, 1 uranium concentrate (XU3O8). The full list with per-token weights is published at https://www.truesourcemetals.com/gmri and in the live data file /data/gmri/latest.json. The same file carries the full family block with the live values and the registered methodology slots from Section 2.

Issuer/jurisdiction metadata (verified, issuer_key, jurisdiction) is published at /data/gmri/universe.json and is the input to TS-GMRI-CAP20 and TS-GMRI-JUR. “Verified” requires corroboration from issuer’s own public docs (terms, prospectus, regulator registry).

The universe is open and additive: new tokens that satisfy Section 3 are added at the next monthly review.

Let N be the number of active constituents on day t, MC_ᵢ,t be the circulating market capitalization of constituent i on day t, and MC_ᵢ,0 be the market capitalization of constituent i on the base date (7 June 2026, base value 100).

Cap-weighted (TS-GMRI):

TS-GMRI_t = 100 × ( Σᵢ MC_ᵢ,t ) / ( Σᵢ MC_ᵢ,0 )

where the sum runs over all constituents active both on the base date and on day t. New constituents are chained in at the next monthly review using a continuity multiplier so the historical series is not distorted.

Equal-weighted (TS-GMRI-EW):

TS-GMRI-EW_t = 100 × (1/N) × Σᵢ ( MC_ᵢ,t / MC_ᵢ,0 )

Both variants are rounded to 2 decimal places for display.

Primary, OTSFA principle (“One True Source for All”):

When sources disagree by more than 1%, the issuer’s official reserve disclosure is the tiebreaker. When the issuer is silent, the constituent is suspended until clarification.
